Teens who signed up for our Teen Summer Reading Program are invited to join us for our Finale party on Friday, August 14. Teens may dress up as their favorite super hero (optional), there will be pizza, and drawings for the four finale prizes! (Although teens do not need to be present to win, if your name is drawn, you will have one week from the time you are notified to claim your prize; if we do not hear from you, another name will be drawn.)
Finale prizes include a movie and pizza party for you and 9 friends at the Library, a $50 gift card to the Auburn Mall, a $50 gift card to Bull Moose Music (donated by Center Street Dental), a Kindle paperwhite (donated by Best Buy). There may also be a few door prizes, as well!
So that we have enough pizza for all who plan to attend, please either email or call us to let us know you’re coming (firstname.lastname@example.org; or 333-6640, ext. 4).
The party takes place from 4-5 p.m. in the Androscoggin Community Room!
We have just a little less than two weeks to go in this summer’s Teen Summer Reading Program, “Unmask!” This year, there were 69 teens who signed up to participate, a 32% increase over last year’s program. Thank you to those of you who participated! To date, 14 teens have turned in reading logs, amounting to a total of 362 books! We have given out 14 Chill Zone beverages at Cumberland Farms, 5 gift certificates to Top It Frozen Yogurt Bar, 4 free Italian sandwiches at Sam’s, and 2 gift cards ($10) to Books A Million. Although the program is winding down – with the finale party on Friday, August 14th – there is still time to turn in your reading log to win prizes, and there are still plenty of prizes left! Stop by the Reference Desk with your completed log today!

The writers and illustrators of this summer’s APL Presents Super Special No. 3 held their premiere party yesterday here at the Library. This summer’s staff was comprised of eight teens who each created their own character and together they created the villain, T.E.D. (That Evil Dude). To see more about the production as well as photos, visit Mike Jordan’s website, bigredapress.com. If you are interested in obtaining a copy of Super Special No. 3, call or stop by the Reference Desk at the Library.
We are currently talking with Mike Jordan regarding the possibility of creating a quarterly magazine if there is enough interest. If you like writing and/or illustrating comic books and are between the ages of 12-17, call or stop by the Reference Desk to let Donna know.
Thanks to the staff for their work on this issue: Daisy, Brianna, Madison, Kacie, Cassidy, Bryce, Graesyn and Xander; and special thanks Mike Jordan and Jennifer Babineau for their time and care of this project.
Author and Iraq War veteran Luis Carlos Montalvan and his service dog, Tuesday, will be here at the Auburn Public Library August 3 4-7PM to share the story of how they saved each other. This event is open to all ages and will include a demonstration of how Tuesday assists Capt. Montalvan in his daily life. There will be a Q&A session, copies of his two books for sale (“Until Tuesday” and “Tuesday Tucks Me In”), a book signing, and photo opportunities.
Space is limited. Stop by the Reference Desk to pick up your free ticket, or call us for more information.
Don’t miss this amazing event!

Teens! Be sure to join us on Tuesday, June 23, as we kick off our 2015 Teen Summer Reading Program, “Unmask!” For this year’s program as we turn our attention to heroes, we are pleased to welcome local heroes from the Greater Androscoggin Humane Society. The GAHS are heroes to the many lost, surrendered and abandoned animals in our community. Come meet some of the amazing people who do this great work at GAHS (along with a furry friend or two), hear about how they do what they do, and teens can learn about how they can help. Teens who bring a donation of pet food for the shelter will be entered into a drawing for three door prizes. This program will take place in the Androscoggin Community Room from 3-4 p.m. Although sign up for the Teen Summer Reading Program is just for teens, ages 12-18, other family members are invited to attend this event.
