Summer Reading Kickoff

Join us as we kickoff our summer reading programs, June 24 for Kids, and June 25 for teens and adults, with two special storytelling performances from master storyteller Odds Bodkin!

First, a performance for kids of all ages on Monday,June 24, from 6PM-7PM

We are very excited that Odds Bodkin will help us kick off our 2019 Summer Reading program with an evening presentation of Rip Roarin’ Paul Bunyan Tales. With the crazy character voice of Sourdough Sam leading the way for the men of Paul Bunyan’s logging camp, Master Storyteller Odds Bodkin presents RIP ROARIN’ PAUL BUNYAN TALES, an evening of American tall tales that will have you holding your sides with laughter.

Not only do characters speak, but vocal sound effects for roaring wind, crashing trees, mooing oxen, bull whips, giant bumblebees and other crazy things fly past, adding vivid imagery to Bodkin’s high-energy telling.

Called “a consummate storyteller” by The New York Times and “a one-man vocal universe by TimeOut New York during his Off-Broadway series, Bodkin’s adult shows in on Harvard Square in Cambridge MA regularly sell out. So bring the kids to this free show in Auburn and settle in for a storytelling they’ll never forget.

Then, a program for teens and adults on Tuesday June 25 from 1PM-2PM.

With thunderous 12-string guitar he plays as he speaks, Master Storyteller Odds Bodkin dives deep into Greek mythology with this award-winning adventure story, HERCULES IN HELL.  The great hero has just awakened in the Underworld, standing before the King and Queen of the Dead.  Yes, Hercules is dead, but he should not be here.  As the son of Zeus, he should have awakened on Mt. Olympus.

Only after he tells his life story to the King and Queen will he be freed, however.  And so he begins.  His youth.  His murders.  His bouts of madness.  His twelve labors and the powerful weapons he uses.  Hercules tells a grand saga, but his heroic life is darkened by uncontrollable rages.

Odds Bodkin performs this story in a brooding voice for Hercules, along with many other characters.  Added are uncanny vocal sound effects that help this story feel like a movie.

This free show is for teens and adults and is not recommended for listeners under eleven years of age.
