But every year there is a reaping, in which a boy and a girl from each district are chosen to compete in the Hunger Games, a nationally televised competition from which only one kid can return alive. Katniss has taken steps to keep herself and Prim from being chosen, but on Reaping Day, her sister is selected.

Desperate to save Prim, Katniss volunteers to take her place. But as she continues down the road to the Hunger Games, she realizes that it will take everything she has to survive this game – and to retain her humanity.

Conor’s mother’s illness isn’t getting better, no matter what kind of medications the doctors are giving her. At 12:07 PM, unable to sleep, he gets up and looks out the window – and sees a monster. The monster that looks just like the yew tree in the backyard.

The tree-monster makes a deal with Conor – it will tell him three stories. In return, he must tell it his story, the one with the terrifying truth. And it’s possible, Conor believes, that the monster will be able to save his mother.

During the day, Conor struggles to take care of his mom, whose chemo is making her constantly sick. He attends school and is bullied. His grandmother is staying with them, making things even more difficult for him.

But every night at 12:07, the monster returns. And things begin to change.

Cinder and her new ally, Thorne, are on the run from the authorities in New Beijing. Having broken out of prison, they must escape the Eastern Commonwealth, or they will be doomed.

On the other side of the world, the French Scarlet Benoit searches for her missing grandmother, who the police have given up on. Scarlet knows her grandmother wouldn’t vanish without telling her where she was going, so she fears the worst – kidnapping or murder.

A street fighter named Wolf offers to help Scarlet find her grandmother, and she has no choice but to trust him. But as tensions between the Earth and Luna rise, things are growing more and more dangerous. Scarlet searches for her grandmother as Cinder looks for both of them, and if they can’t find each other, things will get even worse than they already are.

Claire is a young woman in Jonas’s community who is chosen for the unexciting but vital job of birth mother at the age of twelve. She is to produce three children who can be adopted by families in the community and further its good.

But then Jonas disappears from the community, taking Claire’s first son, Gabe, with him. Claire, desperate to find her son, follows them, nearly drowning in a storm when the boat she is on sinks. She is saved by people in a community which is neither dystopian nor utopian – full of people who want to just live their lives in a quiet, rural place.

Claire has just allowed herself to think that she could be happy here when she decides that she still has to find her son. But it will take everything she has to get there.

The Eastern Commonwealth of Earth is ravaged by a fearsome disease, letumosis, which kills you within days of its contraction. Cinder, a young cyborg who is the most gifted mechanic in New Beijing, does her best to stay healthy and stay out of the way of her stepmother, who blames her for most of the family’s problems.

But then Cinder’s stepsister, Peony, contracts letumosis. Cinder’s stepmother, frantic with worry, thrusts her into the palace laboratory, where she will be experimented on as the emperor’s scientists try to find a cure for the disease. Here she meets Kai, the emperor’s charming son, and learns of his possible impending engagement to the Lunar queen, Levana.

All is not as it seems and it is up to Cinder to figure it out.

It was just a day like any other for Michael Vey when he discovered that he wasn’t the only one with strange electric powers. Taylor, the gorgeous cheerleader from school, has them too, and their genius friend Ostin is eager to help them learn to optimize these powers.

But when Michael’s mom takes them to a pizza place to celebrate Michael’s birthday, she is kidnapped by a mysterious man with a couple more kids with similar powers to Michael’s. Suddenly Taylor is missing too. It’s up to Michael, Ostin, and a couple of bullies from school, the only ones who will give them a ride, to investigate the kidnappings and save them – but it may be a trap.

Someone is after Michael and Taylor’s powers, and it will take everything they’ve got to escape.
