Safekeeping by Karen Hesse

A book review by Faith Thompson

Radley went to Haiti to do volunteer work and to get away from the impending threat of the American People’s Party, who are likely to take over in the next election. When she gets home, she discovers that they have, and that the country is in an uproar.

Her parents have vanished and it’s not safe for her to stay at home. So Radley starts walking down the roads of Vermont, heading for Canada, where she may be safe. On the way there she meets another young woman named Celia, who is obviously hiding something. But what is it? Will there be safety in Canada? Will Radley ever find her parents again? You will have to read the book to find out!
