Fins & Flippers, August 4

Join Chewonki here at the Auburn Public Library as they present “Fins & Flippers”!  This presentation begins with examining the four major groups of marine mammals, their special adaptations for keeping warm, finding food, and breathing air in the marine environment, and the many threats they face. Attendees will then work together as a group to reconstruct a Pilot Whale skeleton. Reassembling this once-living puzzle creates an ideal format for discovery and discussion of the relationships between form and function.

This program will be presented as part of our Adult Summer Reading Program, “Oceans of Possibilities” wherein adults will spend time exploring Maine’s waterways.  Although an adult program, children ages 8 and up are welcome to attend with an adult.

For our planning purposes, registration is required; click here to register online or email dwallace@auburnpubliclibrary.org.
