APL Staff Review - The House Party

The House Party

By Rita Cameron

Rita Cameron's, The House Party, is a realistic glimpse of how easily, and quickly, things can go wrong.  Mia and her husband are moving from the city to a small suburban town.  While their beautiful new home is in its final stages of construction, local high school kids throw a party in the empty house that gets out of hand.  The aftermath for Mia, the town, and its residents, depicts how families close ranks to protect their children.

I really enjoyed this book as it made me think about how this could actually happen, and how I would react if my own children were involved. It was an original and interesting idea for a book.  The tension between the characters seeped out of the book it was so well done.
