Cats in the Library

Meet Opal – APL's 72nd Cat!

Opal is a sweet, playful, and quietly charming kitty who shines in her own gentle way. She's not loud or demanding-just a lovely little companion who enjoys calm company, soft pets, and cozy corners to curl up in.

She's looking for an indoor-only home where she can feel safe and adored. Opal may be ok with mature kids who can respect her boundaries and could possibly get along with other animals after a super slow introduction-she just needs time to adjust at her own pace.

If you're searching for a soft-hearted sweetheart who will bring calm and quiet joy to your home, Opal is ready to meet you!

The Auburn Public Library's Cats in the Library program, launched during the pandemic in partnership with the Greater Androscoggin Humane Society, was designed to boost staff morale during a difficult time. The initiative brought in adoptable cats from the shelter, allowing library staff and customers to interact with them and fostering a calm and joyful environment. The program not only provided emotional support but also had a broader impact: since its inception, 71 cats have found new homes through adoptions. This unique collaboration continues to be a heartwarming success, benefiting both the library community and the animals in need.
