The Camden Conference and the Auburn Public Library invite you to a book discussion of Midnight’s Borders: A People’s History of Modern India by Suchitra Vijayan.

“Sharing borders with six countries and spanning a geography that extends from Pakistan to Myanmar, India is the world’s largest democracy and second-most populous country.  It is also the site of the world’s biggest crisis of statelessness, as it strips citizenship from hundreds of thousands of its people – especially those living in disputed border regions.  … In this stunning work of narrative reportage … we hear from those whose stories are never told…” (from book jacket)

This discussion will take place in the Conference Room on the ground floor.

To register, please visit the Library website or call the Reference Desk at 207-333-6640, ext. 4.  Books will be available on or after January 3 and can be picked up at the Reference Desk on the 2nd floor.  Thanks to funding provided by the Camden Conference, the copy of the book is yours to keep.

The Camden Conference was founded in 1987 as a nonprofit, non-partisan educational organization whose mission is to foster informed discourse on world issues.

The 2024 conference “India: Rising Ambitions, Challenges at Home” will take place February 16-18, 2024, and will be in person, in Camden, Maine.  India is closing in on the world’s largest population and the second-largest economy while becoming a unique democracy, widely involved in global affairs. This brings to light several questions regarding its younger generation and its leadership in the Indo-Pacific region.  For more details on this Conference, visit their website at camdenconference.org.
