Warning: Berserk is a very mature story, and it's not for everybody. If you're on the younger side, definitely don't read it since it is a very adult story. I recommend it to older teens and adults.
Minor spoiler warning as well
I was a little unsure about the magic element being introduced, but I can safely say I really enjoy it. It’s nice to have some combat that isn’t sword-related. What I also really like is how the Skull Knight is a returning character throughout the series. His role is confusing, but he predominantly fights apostles. They are people who have used a Behelit to become an apostle. What differs between the Behelit that people use to become apostles and the one that Griffith used is the color. He used the crimson Behelit, also known as the egg of the king. That comes around every 216 years. I still don’t see how people can defend Griffith after everything he’s done. He is such a well-written character, I never thought I’d hate a character so much. I watched the 1997 anime before I started reading, and I still don’t understand why the Skull Knight is left out. He is such a cool and crucial character to the story of Berserk. The end of volumes 26 and 27 is so cool. The berserker armor is such a cool thing. It’s a little confusing on how it works, but it's really cool. I appreciate how it adapts to the user. I also like how Skull Knight and Flora (the old witch) are old friends. Their relationship is mysterious, but I’m a big fan of it. Berserk is such an amazing story.
