Alan Elze will be the featured speaker at the Auburn Public Library on December 5 at 2 o’clock in the library’s Androscoggin Room at 49 Spring Street.

Hearst Castle is a "bungalow" on 240,000 acres on the coast of California.  William Randolph Hearst inherited the land from his father who owned an interest in several of the most important mines in the United States.  William Randolph (WR) went on to own some of the most important newspapers in the United States.  Hearst hired Julia Morgan, one of the first female architects in the United States, as his designer.  The main house exceeds 60,656 sq/ft.  The interiors are things Hearst collected, including whole rooms of buildings in Europe.  So let's take a brief tour of the history and the "bungalow".

Alan has taught at Senior College since 2005.  He has an advanced degree from the University of Rhode Island and is also retired from the United States Navy.

This program will take place in person, no registration is required.

This presentation is part of a fall series entitled Senior College in the Community offered through a partnership with Lewiston Auburn Senior College.  Lewiston Auburn Senior College has a long-standing relationship with community partners.  In addition to this program, Senior College offers in-person, Zoom, and hybrid enrichment classes.  For more information about Senior College, visit https://laseniorcollege.org/.
