Lewiston-Auburn Senior College will partner with the Auburn Public Library again this year to present uplifting films from across the continents. Expect cinematic excellence, breathtaking scenery, and insights into human nature across cultures, so different yet so universal.
Each week on Tuesday, February 3 through March 10, we will show a film in person at APL, beginning at 1:00 p.m.
A half-hour discussion will follow each movie and will be facilitated by Bill Frayer. Bill is a long-time Senior College instructor with degrees from Brown and USM who taught for many years at CMCC.
If you are interested in participating in the discussion portion, but would like to watch the movie on your own, all movies can be found on Kanopy, available with a library card from either the Lewiston or Auburn Public Library. If you do not have a library card and are from Auburn, Lewiston, or Minot, you are eligible for a free library card. Please contact the Lending Desk at 207-333-6640, ext. 3.
Our movie for today will be The Auction (Quebec, Canada, run time 1:52): "A man of few words, Gaby manages his family’s farm alone, despite his age. With no sons to speak of and two grown daughters far away in the big city, he spends his days tending to the farm, eschewing most social interactions. When his eldest daughter, Marie, appears at the family homestead to share news that she’s in desperate need of money in order to keep her own home, Gaby’s quiet life begins to unravel. In an effort to tend to his children much the way he steadfastly tends to his farm, he’ll be forced to make sacrifices he never intended for the sake of those closest to him. " (from Kanopy.com)
The in-person viewing of the films will take place in the Androscoggin Community Room. The discussion for this film will start at approximately 3:00 p.m.
You do not need to be a member of Lewiston Auburn Senior College to participate in this series.
